Dr. Reiner Martens

Director

New Mexico Public Education Dept.

Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Reiner Martens started to work at NM PED in January 2020 as the Deputy Director of the School Budget and Analysis Bureau at the New Mexico Public Education Department. He was selected as the Director of the Education Finance Analysis Bureau in August 2021. He is currently responsible for setting capital outlay and debt service mill levy rates, reporting to the federal government NPEFS and F33 statistics, calculating the at-risk index, and supporting OBMS developments. Since he started to work at NM PED, he has strived to improve and innovate its operation, e.g., all OpBuds forms were updated, and the OBMS estimated and projected cash modules were implemented. Earlier in his career, he was a teacher in New Mexico, the CEO of a trading company and manufacturing company in Mexico, he worked for Mercedes-Benz and as an IT-Consultant for Accenture in Germany.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico and his engineering degree from the Technical University of Berlin. Now being an empty nester, he likes to play chess in his free time.
